Artist Riad Al Radi, a Syrian refugee, and Egyptian carpenter Aref Ramadan carry a page from a giant Quran made entirely of wood in Irbid city, north of Amman. Al Radi started the project in 2005 back in Syria, but progress was interrupted by the country’s civil war. He resumed his project two years ago when meeting Ramadan in Irbid city, after arriving in Jordan with his family. The carpenter gave Al Radi free space at the shop to complete his project. Each wooden page of the massive Qoran stretches 3.02 m high and 1.85m wide, and weighs 100 kg. Al Radi plans to enter his gigantic Quran in the Guinness World Records for the world’s largest Koran made from wood. Photograph: Muhammad Hamed/Reuters
