People are unhappy with the performance of Narendra Modi government at the Centre during its first 100 days as it has failed to keep its promises on rising prices and inflation, the Nationalist Congress Party said on Saturday.

“People are not at all happy with the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre for not fulfilling the promises made during the Lok Sabha polls, particularly on controlling rising prices of essential commodities,” Lok Sabha MP and NCP General Secretary Tariq Anwar said.

Tall promises were made during the election campaign, raising people’s expectations on inflation and price rise but as the government is completing 100 days, there is no significant change, he charged.

To a question on how can the performance be evaluated within 100 days, Anwar shot back, saying there are many parameters and it can be judged how and in which direction the government was moving.

He also held the government responsible for disturbing the secular fabric in the country with its “Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-backed communal agenda.”

On BJP’s alleged ‘love-jihad’ campaign, Anwar said, there was no ban on love marriages in the country and top BJP Muslim leaders too are no exceptions. “This is a clear cut conspiracy against minority community,” Anwar alleged.

On the denial of leader of opposition status to Congress, Anwar said the BJP’s attitude was unjustified. The role of LoP is crucial in a democratic set-up and is mandatory for the appointment of Lokpal, CBI chief, Chief Justice of India and other Constitutional appointments.

On protocol front also, whenever a foreign dignitary is on a visit, besides meeting the president and PM, he would like to meet the LoP which is a custom, Anwar said.

On the seat-sharing formula in the forthcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, Anwar who said it would be finalised soon.
