Parliament functions smoothly

March 09, 2005 12:23 IST

Parliament on Wednesday resumed normal business after a weeklong disruption by Opposition National Democratic Alliance over the political developments in Goa and Jharkhand.

The NDA participated in the proceedings after a meeting of its leaders in the morning decided not to disrupt functioning of the two Houses.

As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled, Bharatiya Janata Party deputy leader in the House Vijay Kumar Malhotra wanted to raise a point. But Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said he could do so after the Question Hour to which the Malhotra agreed.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi were present in the House.

In the Rajya Sabha, deputy chairman K Rehman Khan was in the chair as chairman and Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has been hospitalised due to a viral fever.
