The Supreme Court on Friday declined to grant bail to controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav on health grounds in the murder case of Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Ajit Sarkar.
A bench headed by Justice S B Sinha, however, allowed the RJD leader to approach the court in future for other relief on the ground of his bad health.
The bench also said that all efforts will be made to conduct the trial through video conferencing for the MP, who is facing problems in movement due to morbid obesity.
The RJD MP from Madhepura is accused of killing Sarkar, a CPI-M leader from Purnea, in 1998 with the help of local gangsters, including Rajan Tiwari.
He was shifted from Beur Jail in Patna to Tihar Jail after the apex court had taken strong exception to the 'five star' treatment being provided to him in spite of being an undertrial in the case.
