Pallam Raju's convoy hits rickshaw, 5 dead

At least five people were killed and seven others injured when a jeep in the convoy of Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju hit an auto rickshaw in a village of his home constituency Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday morning, the police said.

Those killed include four women and injured include three policemen on duty.
 
The incident occurred in Perumallapuram village under Todangi Mandal of East Godavari district this morning.
 
The minister, aghast by the accident, stopped his convoy to supervise the relief operations and shifting of injured to hospital. Angry villagers refused to let go the convoy demanding compensation of Rs 10 lakh to each bereaved family.
