India on Friday took strong exception to Pakistan's contention that it cannot prevent repeat of 26/11 and said that a country cannot absolve itself of its responsibility of not allowing its territory to be used for terrorism activities.

"It is responsibility of a nationhood... It is up to Pakistan to dismantle the terror infrastructure there and take action against terror groups involved in anti-India activities," sources said in New Delhi.

The reaction came on a media report which said Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had told US Defense Secretary Robert Gates that his country, which is experiencing "Mumbai-like attacks almost every other day", cannot guarantee there will not be a repeat of the 26/11 strikes in India.

Gates had earlier warned that if a Mumbai-type attack recurs, India would have "limited" patience.

India has been maintaining that the onus was on Pakistan to prevent terror attacks here, as the origin of the attacks is in that country.

It has been pressing Pakistan to dismantle terror infrastructure, which continues to pose a threat to India.
