Pakistan provokes again, 1 civilian injured in firing in Jammu

February 09, 2015 11:13 IST

Villagers living along the International Border in RS Pora sector had a sleepless Sunday night after Pakistani Rangers indulged in heavy firing and mortar shelling on eight border outposts in Jammu district, leaving one person injured.

A senior paramilitary Border Security Force officer said Pakistan Rangers ‘resorted to unprovoked small arms fire and mortar shelling in the RS Pora sector’.

“Firing began around 10 pm and ended only after three hours or so. We retaliated only after we were left with no other option,” said the officer.

He added that Pakistani Rangers also fired 81 mm mortar shells.

In the firing, Khadim Hussain in Jora Farm village suffered minor splinter injuries, a police officer said, adding that he was immediately to a hospital for treatment.

There have been three ceasefire violations along IB in Samba, Arnia and R S Pura in February this year.

In January this year, Pakistan resorted to several ceasefire violations resulting in death of four people and injuries to seven people, forcing many villagers to leave the areas and seek refuge in safer places.
