Pak: 3 troops killed in terror attack

July 03, 2011 17:49 IST

A group of militants attacked a security check post in northwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing three policemen and injuring one more, officials said. About 12 militants attacked the check post at Karora in Shangla district of Khyber-Paktunkhwa province early Sunday morning.

A police officer and two constables were killed, the officials said. Another constable was wounded. He was taken to a nearby hospital. Following the incident, security was beefed up in Shangla district. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Shangla and nearby Swat district were strongholds of the Pakistani Taliban till the army launched an operation to flush out the militants two years ago. Officials said this was the first instance of a terrorist attack in Shangla after peace was restored in the region.
