Pakistan on Tuesday fired the nuclear-capable Ghauri ballistic missile with a range of 1,300 kilometres that can hit targets in India.

"Pakistan successfully carried out the test-fire of medium-range ballistic Ghauri or Hatf-5 missile," a spokesman of the Inter-Services public relations said. "It has a range of 1,300 km and can carry all types of warheads," he added.

The military did not say where the missile was test-fired. Officials described the test of the missile as a "normal experiment to identify its capability." Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani congratulated the Pakistan army and the nation on the successful test of the missile.

The Pakistani military had tested two nuclear-capable missiles in May this year.
