A man was killed when a remote-controlled bomb went off in the lawless Bajaur tribal region in northwest Pakistan on Wednesday, officials said. A group of security personnel were on a routine patrol in the Salarzai area of Bajaur Agency when they were targeted with the remote-controlled explosive device planted by the roadside.
One security personnel was killed instantly, said officials of the local administration. Soon after the attack, security forces launched a search operation in the area and bombarded two suspected militant hideouts.
Security forces also captured three suspected militants during search operations in Nawagai and Khar areas of Bajaur Agency.
In a separate incident, militants fired several rockets at a security check post in Laghrai area of Mamoond sub-division late on Tuesday night.
None of the rockets hit the post and there were no reports of casualties.
