Pakistani Rangers on Thursday violated the ceasefire and opened indiscriminate firing on Indian positions to stall digging work to uncover a 550-meter long tunnel from Pakistan into Indian terrority along the border in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Pakistan Rangers opened heavy small arms firing from across the border on Indian forward area of Chachwal along International Border (IB) in Samba sector at around 1605 hours today," a senior BSF officer told PTI.
The Border Security Force (BSF) troops guarding the border took up positions and responded, triggering an exchange for brief period, he said.
The officer said the firing was resorted to by Pakistani Rangers to stall the digging work by BSF to uncover the tunnel into Indian territory in Chachwal border belt in Samba sector.
BSF had pressed into service four to five bulldozers and tractors to undertake digging work to uncover the tunnel into Indian territory close to zeroline in Chachwal border belt in Samba sector and firing on them forced the men to escape from the spot of digging nearly 30 meters away from zeroline to save their lives.
"It was yet another ceasefire violation by Pakistani rangers," Officer said.
Pakistan had violated ceasefire 19 times by firing mortars, rockets and small arms firing in past one and half month along International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
On September 17, Pakistani troops had fired rocket-propelled grenades and opened indiscriminate small and heavy arms fire on 5 Indian Posts in Krishangati foward areas along LoC in Poonch sector.
