Ambush-victim jawan's body brought to native place

Thousands lined up along the two sides of National Highway-5 braving rains, to pay their last respects to the mortal remains of havildar Aniruddha Baral who was killed by insurgents in Nagaland on October seven.

Baral, 28, who worked in the intelligence wing of the Border Security Force, had died in an ambush near Dimapur.

The body, brought in a truck from Kolkata, was received by Jajpur district officials at Panikoili and was later taken to Baral's native village Singapur under Rasulpur block.

Nayak, Biju Janata Dal member of legislative assembly Kalpataru Das and former MLA Gurucharan Tikayat were present to pay tributes to Baral.

Baral, who was supposed to arrive in his village on Wednesday to finalise his marriage plans, never lived to see the day.

Family sources said that he had survived an earlier attempt on his life while posted  in Srinagar and was once kidnapped by associates of  jungle brigand Veerappan in the forests of  Karnataka when he was with the special task force.

He was let off later.     

The mortal remains of the jawan was later consigned to flames at his village with full military honours.
