Opinion polls mislead, create delusion: Congress

November 03, 2013 15:27 IST

Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Sunday said that his party has supported the decision of the Election Commission to restrict opinion polls, and added that opinion polls create delusions and mislead people.

“Restriction of opinion poll is a decision of the Election Commission, and we have only supported it. Opinion polls show varied results and it creates delusion and misleads people. All the parties should come together and look into this matter,” he said.

The Congress party has written to the Election Commission to restrict opinion polls ahead of the elections.

The legal department of the Congress party stated that opinion polls can be misused, and they are not scientific or credible.

The Congress, however, shifted from its earlier stand, where it had dismissed the proposal of the Election Commission to ban opinion polls.

Various opinion polls have been projecting a poor performance by the Congress in the five states where assembly elections are scheduled to take place.

The Bharatiya Janata Party hit back by stating, “The inefficiency of the Congress is known to everyone”.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “The Congress party needs to understand. The message is not destroyed if you kill the messenger. The message is against the Congress. Today they want opinion polls to be restricted; tomorrow they will close all meetings of the opposition.”
