Tejaswini Gowda, a former Congress leader in Karnataka who is now with the Bharatiya Janata Party, lambasted her old party, saying it rewarded women leaders in the party only if they danced to the tune of the male politicians.

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, Gowda said that it was only women who “compromised on their personnel integrity and satisfied dominant male leaders", are the ones able to make it big in Congress.

She said that only those leaders who were "willing to keep the male politicians happy" were able to get top posts in the party.

She said this while attending a rally in Mysuru protesting against the increasing number of sexual crimes against women in the state.

Talking about Karnataka Minister for Women and Child Welfare Umashree and how she was a fairly new entrant in the party, she was quoted by Deccan Herald as saying: “Today she is a minister while Rani Satish, a daughter of a Congress stalewart, has to beg for an assembly ticket and stage a protest in Delhi. In the 2013 assembly elections, the Congress didn’t give a ticket to even 10 women candidates. Only Umashree had it easy and I want to know how this was possible."

BJP leader reportedly told the media that she herself had faced harassment when she was in the Congress and was open for a debate on the issue as she could back her statements with evidence.

According to The New Indian Express, Gowda alleged that the Congress took 'note only of good looks, not hard work or sincerity'.

She is also said have advised women who are good looking to be careful before joining the Congress as it as it does not provide safety for women.

She said that Ramya was given a ticket in the Lok Sabha only because of her stardom.

However, she also mentioned that not all Congress leaders acted this way.
