When former chief minister of Haryana Om Prakash Chautala visualised Gurgoan as country's cyber city in North India, he knew that his vision was going to pay dividends. With little bit of help from the marketing gurus, the city with towering malls and offices soon attracted the attention of prospective buyers.
Gurgoan had placed Haryana not just on the Indian map, but also on the international market with MNCs flocking to the cyber city.
But Gurgoan has been making news of late, but for wrong reasons. The latest is the killing of encounter specialist ACP Rajbir Singh on Tuesday.
While the Haryana police are interrogating real estate agent Vijay Bhardwaj, who called up the media after shooting Rajbir in the head to confess his crime.
"I owed him money. He wanted me to return, but I could not make arrangements to do the same," the accused said.
Singh, who had joined the Delhi police as a sub-inspector in 1982, earned the title of 'encounter specialist' as he was involved in 56 shootouts, including the controversial Ansal Plaza operation in 2002 in which questions were raised over the killing of two terrorists.
Delhi police commissioner Y S Dadwal, it is learnt, has ordered parallel investigation into the circumstances leading to the murder.
"The commissioner of police has not ordered any probe," assistant commissioner of police Rajan Bhagat told rediff.com on Wednesday morning. The Delhi police have offered full assistance to the Gurgoan police.
Recently, Soha Ali Khan, daughter of Tiger Pataudi, was issued a court notice, asking asking her to explain how did she get the gun licence.
Then there was notorious case of shooting down of a school boy by his own class mate with his father's pistol.
