A National Investigation Agency team arrived in Malkangiri on Thursday to record the statements of two Maoists who have admitted to the Odisha police that they were involved in the May 25 attack in Chhattisgarh in which several Congress leaders were killed.
The two Maoists, Kasa Kunjami and Ora Madhi, arrested during a combing operation in Malkangiri district on June 24, have told police interrogators that they were trained for the attack by senior cadres, police sources said.
The three-member NIA team entrusted with the investigation, flew to Malkangiri in a special helicopter and held talks with the local police before meeting the two Maoists.
"The local police made arrangements to bring the two Maoists on remand before the NIA team to record their statements," Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Singh told reporters.
