The president’s motorcade made a beeline for the theatre straight after arriving at Orly Airport, south of Paris, on Sunday night.

He was joined by French President Francois Hollande and mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo as he placed a single flower at a makeshift memorial at the site of the horrific atrocity.

Obama bowed his head in silence just yards from where Islamic State jihadists killed dozens of innocent revellers 16 days ago.

The wave of attacks on Paris on the night of November 13 claimed 130 innocent lives as bombs were set off outside the Stade de France, gunmen attacked cafes and three terrorists stormed the concert hall.

The Bataclan was packed with music fans watching rock band the Eagles of Death Metal when the jihadists charged in and opened fire.

A makeshift memorial to the victims to the night of terror has sprung up outside the concert hall.

The president is in Paris for the opening two days of an international conference on combating climate change, with the conference on high alert and security bolstered ahead of visits by world leaders.
