Obama on daughters' dating: Guys will need 'guts'

Dating will be a sensitive issue that re-elected United States President Barack Obama will have to deal with as his young daughters stay on at the White House for four more years, with the possessive father saying he will give a patient hearing to any boy who has the 'guts' to get through the Secret Service.

Obama on Wednesday registered a historic win against his Republican opponent Mitt Romney to retain his presidency for four more years.

Like any doting father, Obama said he is proud of his daughters Malia, 14 and Sasha, 11, who are quickly growing up into young, confident girls and soon he too will have to deal with their teenage years when young boys will be keen to date them.

In a radio interview he gave before the elections results were announced, Obama was asked if he would allow dating for his daughters if they continue to live in the White House for four more years.

"Any young man who has the guts to get through Secret Service deserves a hearing," Obama said in a lighter vein. He said his daughters are 'wonderful young' ladies, who are kind and respectful to everybody and want to be treated like everyone else.

"I embarrass them all the time. It is my job. But Michelle is very good about making sure that we're creating a space for them where they can have sleepovers. They can go to the mall. They can go to the movies. They're going to homecomings at their school."

The president said he would have to consult his wife on what song they would dance to when he wins the election. In his inaugural ball four years ago, the First couple had danced to a song sung by Beyonce.

"Now that's a tough choice, and I think I'll have to consult with my wife. Whatever it is it's got to be a slow song so that I can put my moves on Michelle. Something a little romantic, you know? I haven't seen her a lot lately. I've been on the road too much."
