The United States will seek extradition of Avtar Grewal, who allegedly killed his wife at Phoenix in Arizona and then fled to India. He will face murder charges.
Grewal was arrested at Delhi airport and is in judicial custody in India now.
Police said the 32-year-old Vancouver man had flown to Phoenix to kill 30-year-old Navneet Kaur last Thursday. Kaur's body was found at her residence on Friday.
The murder came to light when her co-workers went to check her after she failed to show up for work. They saw blood and signs of struggle and called the police.
Phoenix police detective Bob Ragsdale said according to their information, the couple was not living together and she wanted a divorce.
Police believe that after the murder, Grewal flew to Newark airport on a one-way ticket and then to Delhi also on a one-way ticket.
An international arrest warrant was issued against him.
