The prime accused in the murder of a Punjab non resident Indian has been arrested while two other co-accused gave themselves up, police said in Hoshiarpur Thursday.
Jasbir Singh alias Jassa of Moranwali, prime accused in the murder of Mohan Singh of Hardo village of Jalandhar district was arrested Wednesday by Garhshankar police, they said.
Two other co-accused, Sukhjit Singh and Rajwinder Singh alias Raju, both residents of the district, surrendered before the Garhshankar police Thursday and Wednesday evening respectively.
Police claimed that during interrogation Paramjit confessed that on September 28, Jagtar had asked the two of them to bring more liquor for him. When they did not oblige him, he first abused and later slapped Fauji on the face.
An enraged Fauji assaulted Jagtar with a sharp wooden stick, seriously injuring him and redering him unconscious. When he recovered and stood up the duo took him to the tubewell of Malkiat Singh at village Chipra and hit him again with wooden logs, killing him, police said.
All the accused have been handed over to the district police in Hoshiarpur.
District police Hoshiarpur had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on Jasbir Singh alias Jassa, the sources said.
A case was registered on August 18 in connection with the murder of the NRI, who was killed near a dhaba on GT road between Phillaur and Ludhiana.
The sources said that of eight accused, seven had been arrested or have surrendered and one more accused Kulwant Singh was still at large.
