Now in India, protest means sedition, says Rahul in Parliament

December 01, 2015 17:40 IST

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the debate on intolerance in the country in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Here are some top quotes from his address.

1) While the prime minister praised makers of the Constitution in Parliament a few days ago as people who had answers to India’s problems. But, for me, they are great because they had the humility to ask the right questions and the ability to listen to the people of the country.

2) For me the real authors of the Constitution were people the PM did not spend much time on in his speech. They are the people of this country.

3) The Prime Minister allowed Gen V K Singh to continue as a minister even after he likened Dalit children with dogs. He directly challenged the constitution and the fundamental right to equality but our prime minister let this man to continue as if nothing happened.

4) Mohd Akhlaq, father of a young Air Force man Mohd Sartaj, was killed in cold blood just because he is a Muslim and the man ultimately responsible for his protection, the PM, remained silent.

5) The government talks of Skill India. Yet when the students of Film and Television Institute of India with superb skills go on a strike because a mediocre man is placed to head their institution, the government simply tries to crush their voice and intimidate them.

6) Gujarat model has now been exposed. In Gujarat Patidars are protesting and the government’s response is to file 20,000 FIRs against them for sedition. Today, in India, protest is considered as sedition.

7) Arun Jaitleyji said protests of intellectuals against rising intolerance were manufactured. Arunji this isn’t a dream like your Make in India. This is reality.

 8) Aa Arun Shourie turned a bit critical of Modi government, your trolls started attacking your own partyman.
