July 25, 2011 17:39 IST

Briefing mediapersons in Bengaluru, he said he has written to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, asking him to constitute a committee to look into the phone tapping issue.

He said that the committee would be headed by External Affairs Minister S M Krishna.

"I have also written to Bharatiya Janata Party national President Nithin Gadkari seeking constitution of an internal committee to examine all corruption charges against me and my family members."

He said that appropriate action would be taken on the Lokayukta report once it is out.

He didn't specify what action, but said, "Let the report come out and then I will answer. The question of stepping down does not arise now. The Lokayukta report is not the final word on the issue. Similar issues are before the court, so let the judiciary take a decision on the matter."
