Northern Command chief visits Leh

January 12, 2011 20:03 IST

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command Lt Gen KT Parnaik on Wednesday paid a visit to Leh.

This was the first visit of Gen Parnaik to the forward areas in Ladakh region after taking over as the GOC Northern Command on January 1, according to a defence spokesman in Srinagar.

The visit assumes significance in light of the reported Chinese incursions in the Ladakh area which have, however, been denied by the defence ministry in New Delhi.

The GOC visited

the Fire and Fury Corps Headquarters in Leh, where he was briefed by Lt Gen R.P Dastane, on the state of operational preparedness, training activities and numerous development works being undertaken by the formation in the remote region of Ladakh, the spokesman said.

"The GOC expressed appreciation for the Fire and Fury Corps in carrying out their assigned tasks whilst braving the hardships of high altitude, weather and terrain in the most challenging area of the country," the spokesman added.
