The B N Srikrishna Committee, set up by the Centre to look into the demands for the creation of a separate Telangana, has said that so far, it has not received any official report from the ruling Congress party and main opposition Telugu Desam Party.

Committee chairman Justice BN Srikrishna, who arrived in Hyderabad on Thursday to discuss the issue with various political parties, said that though some leaders of the two parties had presented their own reports to the committee, the parties were yet to submit their official reports.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti, the Praja Rajyam Party and the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen have submitted their official reports.

Both the Congress and the TDP are divided over the Telangana issue. While leaders from Telangana within these parties are demanding a separate state, leaders from coastal Andhra and Rayala Seema are opposed to it.

Srikrishna said that the committee will again visit Hyderabad on May 6-7 to discuss the issue with more political parties.

He added that the process of gathering opinions of the various parties and organisations was going on smoothly. "Some people had opposed the committee in the beginning but now everybody is cooperating with us," he said.

After the committee completes its discussions with various parties, it will travel across the state to collate the views of the people in June and July.

"We can arrive at some kind of a conclusion only after hearing the views of the people of all regions," he said.

The committee on Thursday heard the views of the leaders of the Praja Rajyam Party.

A 22-member delegation of the PRP, led by party president Chiranjeevi, told the committee that the majority of people want Andhra Pradesh to remain united.

The PRP demanded a national policy on the issue of division of states and said that it should not be done merely on the basis of agitations, backwardness and cultural diversity. The party warned that the creation of smaller states will encourage separatism.

The PRP demanded the constitution of regional development boards with more resources to solve the problem of backwardness in different regions.
