'Prosecution need not take any further action against Vijayan'

The Kerala state advocate general, C.P.Sudhakara Prasad, has given his opinion in the multi-crore corruption case involving the Communist Party of India-Marxist state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and has opined that the prosecution need not take any action against the former state electricity minister.

The opinion given by the advocate general has ruffled political feathers in Kerala with the opposition Congress coming out against the CPI-M led Left Democratic Front government and Prasad.

In a hard hitting statement the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala said that the advocate general has given a political opinion and not an opinion to the recommendation of the state governor.

KPCC spokesperson M.M.Hassan said that the people of Kerala did not expect anything else from Sudhakara Prasad who is a fellow CPI-M traveler and a nominee to the post of the AG by the Left party.

He added that the AG has proved his trust worthiness to his masters in the CPI-M and not to the people of the state.

The Kerala high court had given time till May 11 for the state government to move the prosecution case against the CPI-M state secretary in the multi crore corruption case involving the Canadian company SNC Lavelin, which is noted for taking international contracts in maintenance and implementation of major hydro electric power projects.

The incident related to the multi-crore case has its roots when the CPI-M state secretary was the power minister in the E.K.Nayanar cabinet of 1996.

The CPI-M has blamed the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is conducting the investigation, as being used by the Congress leadership in Delhi to settle political scores.
