No ammunition fired in Kashmir today: CRPF

Central Reserve Police Force Director General Vikram Srivastava on Monday claimed that his force has not fired a single bullet since Monday morning in violence-hit Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir.
 
Interacting with the media, Srivastava said, "No ammunition has been fired by the CRPF at the funeral procession. Our basic position is that we are there to assist the state police."
 
He said that the CRPF personnel are helping out the Jammu and Kashmir police, civil administration and forces by performing to the best of their abilities.
 
Srivastava said CRPF personnel have not fired a single bullet on Monday during the funeral procession of Bilal Ahmed Wani, who was killed in firing by the paramilitary troopers on Friday. They have only fired tear gas shells to control the mob, he added.
 
Srivastava said the CRPF has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The paramilitary force is facing charges of human right violations as three persons have been killed in firing in the last three days in Sopore.
 
Sopore remains tense amidst violent protests over the death of Wani, 20, who was killed after the CRPF used rubber bullets on protesters on Sunday.

Fresh clashes were reported in Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning after a protester was killed in alleged firing by the CRPF.
