Nita Ambani picks up the broom

Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, accompanied by Reliance Foundation chairperson Nita Ambani, participated in a Swachhata Abhiyan (cleanliness drive) in the front yard of Sir JJ Group of Hospitals in Mumbai on Saturday.

Wife of Governor, Ch Vinodha was also present. The Governor also planted a sapling in the JJ Hospital compound on the occasion, an official release said.

Speaking to Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte and Dean of JJ Hospital Dr T P Lahane, the Governor expressed the need for having a new building for the Hospital and for providing better facilities to the poor patients coming from different parts of the country.

The Governor accompanied by Nita Ambani also visited the Byculla market (Sant Gadgebaba Mandai) and took part in a cleanliness drive. Dustbins were distributed to the vegetable vendors on the occasion.

Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte told the Governor that the Municipal Corporation was working on a plan to construct a new building for the Mandai to accommodate all the vegetable vendors.

The suggestion of opening a cold storage facility to preserve unsold material and a recycling plant for the disposal of waste was also discussed while the vegetable vendors assured the Governor that they will keep the surroundings clean, the release added.
