Shiv Sena rebel and former member of Parliament Sanjay Nirupam will join the Congress on Monday.

Sources said that Maharashtra in-charge of the party, Magaret Alva, will formally induct Nirupam into the party at around 1600 hours.

So far the party has not promised any seat to Nirupam, who resigned as Sena MP in the Rajya Sabha.

The move is a result of negotiations Nirupam had been having with the Congress for some time now. He had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in this connection last week.

He quit the Sena on March 9 purportedly following differences with chief Bal Thackeray over the role of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan in the Reliance Infocomm case.

In a letter written to party chief Bal Thackeray, Nirupam said he has time and again been prevented from raising his voice against corruption.

Nirupam also quotes his differences with the party over North Indians migrating to Mumbai as a trigger for his decision to sever ties with the Sena.
