Nine Bihar government officials have been expelled from a departmental examination for promotions after they were caught cheating, an official said on Saturday.

Officials in the general administration department in Patna said six state government officials were caught cheating on the first day of the departmental examination on Thursday and three officials were caught cheating on Friday, the second day of the examination.

The examination was being held at a government-run girls' high school

at Shastrinagar in Patna. "Students getting caught cheating in examinations is common in Bihar, but it was shocking that government officials were caught cheating," an official said.

According to officials, the government has ordered departmental proceedings against those guilty. "All nine have been banned from appearing in the biannual departmental examination in future," the official said.

According to department officials, all gazetted officers have to undergo departmental examination for promotions.
