New twist in Prof Sabharwal case; son's driver murdered

July 24, 2009 13:38 IST

In a new twist in the murder of Ujjain professor Y K Sabharwal, his son Himanshu's driver has been found murdered near Delhi University campus.

Himanshu alleged that Parminder Kumar was found stabbed in Maurice Nagar with stab wounds late Thursday night.

Kumar was out for pasting posters around the Delhi University campus on 'Justice for Sabharwal' campaign.

According to Himanshu, four of them had gone to paste posters and he along with his two friends returned home together, but the driver went back alone.

He said he got a call from police later saying Kumar was found stabbed to death.

Senior police officials could not be reached for comments.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad leaders, who were accused in the Sabharwal murder case, were let off by a Ujjain court on July 13 for lack of evidence.

Asked whom he suspected in the murder of his employee, Himanshu said he cannot name anybody.

"I don't know who is behind the murder. But who can have a problem in us organising a protest or a candlelight vigil against the injustice done to my father," Himanshu told PTI in an apparent reference to ABVP.

Prof Sabharwal, Head of the Political Science Department of Madhav College, Ujjain, died in August, 2006, after a fracas in the college over student union elections when he was allegedly beaten up by the ABVP activists. Later, he succumbed in a hospital.
