Naxals on Tuesday burnt down five vehicles engaged in iron ore mining in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, police said.

The incident took place this morning in Barbaspur village. Around 40 armed Maoists raided the site and after threatening the labourers, they set ablaze five vehicles engaged in mining, Kanker Superintendent of Police Ajay Yadav told PTI by phone.

A police team was immediately rushed to the spot and labourers were quizzed about the incident, he said.

The extremists are reportedly opposing iron ore mining in the area, the police officer said.
