Naxals kill 2, torch 6 trucks in Chhattisgarh

Appealing people not to celebrate Independence Day, Naxals torched six trucks in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district.

The incident occurred on Dantewada road late on Friday night when armed Naxals numbering 60 stopped Jagadalpur-bound trucks coming from Kirandool and threatened its drivers not to ply on the route, police said.

The Maoists forced the drivers out of the trucks and then torched the vehicles, they said adding the Naxals fled the spot immediately after the incident.

Police have recovered Naxal literature from the spot asking people not to celebrate Independence Day on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Naxals on Saturday killed two persons, including a police informer, and injured a special police officer in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, officials said.

A group of armed Maoists fired at the trio when they were shopping in a market under Badgaon police station area.

Dhanesh (25), the informer, and Durgu Dakua (39), a villager, were seriously injured and died on way to a hospital, police officials told PTI by phone.

SPO Raisingh suffered bullet injures on his leg and was admitted to the hospital. The Naxal attack created chaotic scene in the market and the assailants managed to escape from the spot, they said.

Police teams were dispatched to nab the ultras and eye -witnesses were being questioned, the officials said.
