Suspected Naxalites on Thursday attacked the residence of Chhattisgarh's woman and child welfare minister in Kondagao district and killed a security guard posted there, the police said.
Additional Director General of police Ramnivas said that the residence of the Minister, Lata Usendi, was attacked by three motorcycle-borne Naxals on Thursday evening.
The security guard, Narsinh Markam, who was posted outside the residence was killed when they opened fire, he said, adding, the Naxals also took away the arms on the guard.
While the minister was not present when the incident took place, her family members who were inside were left unharmed, he said. The guard was rushed to a local hospital but died while being treated. Top police officials have rushed to the spot and further investigations are on.
