Four Central Reserve Police Force jawans were killed and as many injured when Naxals ambushed a road opening party of the security forces in Maoist-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, the police said.
The incident took place in the forest between Murkinar and Cheramungi village in Modakpal area this morning, Additional Director General of Police (Naxal Operations) R K Vij said.
Vij said that the ROP of the paramilitary forces was clearing the Murkinar-Cheramungi road as CRPF officials were going for some civic action programme in the region. While the ROP was heading towards their destination, Naxal opened indiscriminate firing on them killing four troopers of the CRPF 168 battalion on the spot, he said.
Four other CRPF troopers have also been injured in the attack, an official said. Additional forces have been rushed to the spot and the bodies of the deceased are being taken out of the jungle.
Meanwhile, a CRPF official told PTI that an intense combing operation has been launched in the region to nab the ultras.
