CRPF jawan murder: Naxal hand ruled out

Last updated on: August 16, 2010 13:01 IST

The Raipur police has ruled out involvementĀ of Naxals in the beheading of the jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force, contrary to what newspapers reported on Monday morning.

A headless body of a CRPF jawan was found near a camp in Bastar district on , the police said on Monday.

The decapitated body of Kanihya Yadav, a jawan belonging to elite Cobra unit of the CRPF, was found near the Mazgaon camp of CRPF's 204th battalion on Sunday afternoon, Bastar Superintendent Sunderraj said.

He said the head could not be recovered so far.

The SP, however, ruled out the involvement of Naxals in the incident, saying prima facie it does not seem the handiwork of Maoists.

The body was found away from the road and it seems that there was an attempt to hide it, quite opposite the modus operandi of Naxals who threw bodies on roads after killing people, Sunderraj said. Moreover, no letter was found near the body, which is another signature of Naxal killings, he said.

The officer said police suspect involvement of Yadav's acquaintance in this case and are probing the case from that angle. His associates were also being questioned, he added.
