Arun Prakash to be new naval chief

Vice Admiral Arun Prakash will be the new chief of the Naval Staff succeeding Admiral Madhvendra Singh who will retire on July 31.

Prakash has been Commandant of the National Defence Academy (1997-99) and served as Chief of Personnel at Naval Headquarters (1999-2001).

He was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the newly created Unified Andaman and Nicobar Command in October 2001 and served in that capacity till taking over as Flag officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command on December 31, 2002.

He had taken over as the Vice-Chief of the Naval Staff on October 17, 2003.
