Actor Navin Nischol and his brother Pravin, held on the charge of abetting the suicide of Navin's wife Geetanjali, were on Saturday granted bail by a sessions court.
Sessions judge N D Deshpande granted bail to both for the sum of Rs 10,000 each.
Earlier, both were produced before a magistrate who extended their police custody till May nine. However, in view of the sessions court granting bail, the duo would be released from prison.
Geetanjali was found hanging at the couple's Mahim residence in Mumbai on April 22, and in a suicide note held Navin and Pravin responsible for her extreme act.
Police arrested both the brothers on April 28, charging them under section 498 (a) (husband or in-laws subjecting a woman to cruelty) and section 306 (abetting a suicide) of Indian Penal Code.
Earlier, the police had obtained extension of the duo's police custody till May nine. But Deshpande, who heard their bail applications, observed that there was no evidence, which supported Geetanjali's claim in the suicide note that Navin and his brother were responsible for her act.
