A prominent ruling National Conference activist was gunned down by unidentified terrorists in capital Srinagar on Friday afternoon.

A senior police officer said that the terrorists opened fire from a close range at Abdul Rahman Ganai, a middle-rung NC worker at Natipora in the capital city.

"They fired two pistol rounds at Ganai from a close range while he was returning home after offering Friday prayers at a local mosque," the officer said.

He said Ganai, who was a local Halqa president of the ruling party succumbed to injuries while on his way to the hospital. His body has been shifted to police hospital. Terrorist activities have shown an upward trend in capital city in past one month. No outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
