The working committee of the ruling National Conference is holding a crucial session in Srinagar to discuss the prevailing situation in Kashmir on Thursday.

Chaired by the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah, the working committee meeting started at his Gupkar residence and was attended by members of the committee including the state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, cabinet ministers and other senior leaders of the National Conference.

The meeting is scheduled to discuss activation of the party cadre at the grassroots level to meet the challenge because of the present incidents of violence in the state.

The NC president has already set aside speculation of his stepping down from the party president's post, but sources said a suitable replacement for the ailing party general secretary Sheikh Nazir could be discussed during the meeting.
