Narmada rehabilitation: Gujarat rushes officials to MP

The Gujarat government has sent top officials to Bhopal to look into the issue of rehabilitation of those affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project after the Supreme Court directive on the issue.

The apex court on April 17 had directed all the concerned states and the central government to complete the rehabilitation work of project affected persons in next three months or it will order to stop the construction of dam.

Gujarat Chief Secretary Sudhir Mankad, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited Chairman P K Laheri and other officials were asked to immediately leave for Madhya Pradesh after the meeting of the state Cabinet held Wednesday afternoon, state government officials said.

State government PRO Jagdish Thakker said till now Gujarat has paid Rs 400 crore to Madhya Pradesh for the rehabilitation work and it is ready to pay Rs 150 crore more for resettlement of project affected people.
