Days after she complained of being harassed by officials at the high-security Vellore prison, Rajiv Gandhi assassination case life convict Nalini has alleged that her life is under threat and claimed of being assaulted by jail authorities.

In recent letters to ADGP Prisons K R Shyamsundar, she alleged that attempts were being made to poison her food and that she was also being assaulted. In separate letters to him, she also alleged that her cell had not been cleaned for days and expressed fears of officials 'planting' something there to recover it, apparently hinting at the recovery of a mobile phone from her cell last month.

She had last month written to Shyamsundar, alleging that she was being harassed by prison authorities. However, officials were not available to respond to her allegations. On May 10, the government had informed the state assembly that she had made calls to foreign countries from the mobile, including to Sri Lanka and Britain.

The Madras High Court had recently rejected her application for premature release.
