Naidu sails on the BJP wave; to join NDA

December 15, 2013 14:41 IST

Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu has told his party workers that he would be joining the National Democratic Alliance in January.

At a TDP meeting on Saturday, Naidu told party workers that he would be entering into a pre-poll tie up with the NDA and has been assured that he would be made convenor.

Nadiu's decision has come as a bonus for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA as it has been struggling to open its account in Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu, however, took his time before making a commitment to the NDA.

Initially, Naidu felt that he should fight the polls alone on the Telangana issue. However, following the drubbing the Congress got in the recently-held assembly elections, he now feels that the wave is in favour of the BJP.

When Gujarat strongman Narendra Modi had visited Hyderabad the last time, he had indirectly lured the TDP.

Modi had in his speech stated that it was time to bring back the legacy of TDP founder N T Rama Rao, who had always believed that India should be rid of the Congress.
