Taj GM Kang returns to work

December 21, 2008 17:38 IST

Taj General Manager Karambir Kang, whose wife and two minor sons were killed in the deadly terror attack on the hotel, returned to work on Sunday.

"Karambir Kang is back to work today," an Indian Hotels spokesperson told PTI.

Kang's wife Nitti and two sons, Samar and Uday, who were put up at the sixth floor of the Heritage wing of the Taj Mahal Hotel, were killed in the terror attack on November 26 that lasted for nearly 60 hours.

Despite losing his family, Kang continued to supervise rescue operations and helped guests at the hotel.

Forty-year-old Kang took charge as General Manager of Taj Mahal and Tower in November 2007 and has 17 years of experience in the hospitality industry.

Kang, who had taken ashes of his wife and two children to Mohali where he owns a farmhouse, avoided talking to anybody as he was still grief-stricken.

After the siege of Taj ended, Group Chairman Ratan Tata had asked Kang to take some rest, but he preferred to stay at the scene and help in the operations.
