Notwithstanding calls against any rapprochement with him, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday ruled out accepting the resignation of Amar Singh from key party posts and said differences will be sorted out soon.
"Amar Singh has resigned from the post of general secretary and from the membership of the party's parliamentary board. But our relationship is such that I will not accept his resignation. This will be resolved soon," he told reporters after visiting ailing Communist leader Jyoti Basu at a hospital in Kolkata.
On the resignation of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who has stated that he was stepping down as party general secretary in the wake of his mentor Amar Singh's decision, Yadav said, "Everything will be fine."
There have been calls from within the party in the last few days including from senior leader Ram Gopal Yadav that Mulayam should immediately accept the resignation of Amar Singh from key party posts.
"I have advised Mulayam Singhji that Amar Singh's resignation should be immediately accepted. He resigned from key party posts just before the elections to legislative council in Uttar Pradesh. This has badly affected the morale of our party workers," Ram Gopal said in New Delhi on Saturday night.
Another SP leader Mohan Singh has said that the party should not give a long rope to Amar Singh as his public criticism of the grip of Mulayam's family on the party and about SP's functioning was "most immoral".
Ram Gopal Yadav, who is also a general secretary in the SP, has been at loggerheads with Amar Singh ever since the latter resigned from the party posts last week.
Amar, after faxing his resignation from Dubai (where he currently is) to Mulayam, had sarcastically said the post of party's national spokesperson should be given to Ram Gopal who was his senior in the party and also has an advantage being Mulayam's cousin.
