The Hyderabad police has arrested the most-wanted militant Viqaruddin Ahmad, along with six other accomplices, from the city.

According to sources, Viqaruddin was arrested from the house a doctor in Secunderabad area on the basis of information provided by his brother Sulaiman.

While three persons were taken in to custody by the police form different parts of the city two days ago, two more were picked up from Miryalguda in Nalgonda district on Tuesday.

Sources said that all of them were being questioned by the police. Viqaruddin, earlier an activist of fundamentalist organisation Darsgah-e-Jehad O Shahadat (DJS), was wanted by the police since he opened fire on policemen and injured two in Santosh Nagar on December 3, 2008.

Later, he created sensation in the city by targeting the policemen on May 18, 2009 in Falaknuma area killing a home guard.
In a note left behind, the assailants said that it was a revenge for the death of nine Muslims in the city in police firing near Mecca Masjid on May 18, 2007 after the blast. In exactly the same attack on third anniversary of Mecca Masjid, another policeman was killed in Sahah Ali Banda Roa. Police said that in all the three cases same weapon was used.

Those taken into custody, include Sulaiman, Dr Haneef, Mohammed Riyaz and Sayeed. Haneef was picked up from his clinic in Musheerabad and other two were also picked up from different places by the counter intelligence cell on July 11.

After city police commissioner A K Khan had denied that police had taken them in to custody, three families had lodged missing cases with the police.

Two other youth Karim and Mohammed Ghouse Ali were taken in to custody from their houses in Miryalguda town.
