Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday targeted Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi scheduled rally for Sunday in Jammu, saying that ‘it was aimed at creating communal tension and divide in the state’.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate is scheduled to address his maiden rally in the winter capital Jammu on Sunday.
Addressing a rally after laying foundation stone of a bridge in Nagrota nearJammu, Omar cautioned ‘the people of the attempts by the BJP to create communal tension and divide the people in the name of religion and region’.
Omar said that the leaders in this rally will talk of abrogation of Article 370, discrimination between Kashmir and Jammu and other emotional issues.
“They will criticise all leaders right from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to Dr Farooq Abdullah for political situation in Jammu and Kashmir in an attempt to create hatred between Hindus and Muslims, and for vote bank politics, as has been their way,” he said adding that the BJP wants to divide the society for electoral consideration.
“Every one is aware that when the BJP is out of power they raise sensitive issues and flare up the emotions of people, but when in power they shut the lid of their Pandora’s Box and never raise such matters,” he said, and asked the people to be cautious about their designs of making Jammu and Kashmir a breeding ground of communalism and hatred.
He asked the people to ‘give them a befitting reply by showing unity and commitment for solidarity, communal harmony and brotherhood’.
The chief minister said that parties such as the BJP and opposition Peoples Democratic Party try their best to create tension in the society and take advantage of the divide.
He said that the National Conference and the Congress are the parties which stand for brotherhood, communal amity and unity.
“The Congress and the NC are always at the receiving end when communal elements create a wedge in the society on communal, sectarian and regional grounds,” he said.
