The police used water cannons to disperse Congress workers and leaders who were taking part in a rally on Thursday morning to protest the failures of the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat.

The opposition party took out the 25-km rally on the first day of the month-long budget session of Gujarat Assembly that begins in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The march started from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to state capital Gandhinagar to protest the deteriorating law and order situation and rising prices of essential commodities.

The leader of the opposition in the Assembly, Arjun Modhvadia, and Gujarat Pradesh Congress committee president Bharatsinh Solanki also took part in the protest march.
