Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a strict religious fast, has had several high profile engagements on the second day of his United States visit, reports Sheela Bhatt/Rediff.com in New York.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has de-hyphenated India's relation with Israel and Palestine.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will arrive in New York on Sunday, September 28, on a working visit to address the United Nations General Assembly.

Netanyahu will meet with United States President Barack Obama in Washington and with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday, October 1.

Netanyahu will begin his visit meeting with Prime Minister Modi, the first meeting in over a decade between the prime ministers of Israel and India. Modi had been to Israel when he was chief minister of Gujarat. He was quite fascinated by Israeli water management.

Besides defence ties, regional conflict, terrorism and joint intelligence sharing, Modi may also discuss Clean Ganga project with Netanyahu.

Israel has a fascinating efficiency over water cleaning technologies with state-of-the-art water waste monitoring systems. Thousands of fish are released to keep the Yarkon river clean.

With Modi working on a tight schedule, it is unlikely he will have any time for Palestine.

On the second day of his visit to America, Modi has not eaten anything so far, but has had many high profile engagements.

After visiting the 9/11 memorial on Saturday morning, where he paid tribute to the victims of terrorism, he stopped to see the Survivor Tree.

The Callery Pear tree known as the 'Survivor Tree', stands as a 'living reminder of resilience, survival and rebirth.'

The damaged tree was found at Ground Zero with mutilated roots and burned branches following the terror attack at the World Trade Centre. The tree was rehabilitated at the memorial in 2010.

After his United Nations speech Modi met the prime ministers of Nepal and Bangladesh and the president of Sri Lanka.
