Moderate quake jolts Kashmir, triggers panic

A moderate earthquake struck Kashmir valley on Thursday afternoon triggering panic among the residents.

The meteorological office said the earthquake jolted the valley around 12.02 pm and details were being collected. However, there was no immediate report of any damage to life and property in the valley.

Some of the residents in the city said they rushed out of their houses in panic.

Scores of people were killed and hundreds others wounded in a major earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale that struck the valley October 2005. Hundreds of houses were destroyed in the earthquake in north Kashmir.
