Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, who was injured in a car accident in Liberia, was on Thursday airlifted to Cote d'Ivoire for further treatment.

Besides Ravi, Shamma Jain, Ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire with concurrent accreditation to Liberia, has also been taken to Cote d'Ivoire.

Before they were airlifted to the African country, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf visited them at the hospital and enquired about their health condition.

Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria had earlier said that the Minister was out of danger.

A speeding driver rammed into Ravi's car in Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia yesterday while he was heading to board a flight to Nigeria.

Ravi is on a nine-day tour of African countries namely, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Liberia and Nigeria from January 29 to February 6, 2010.

As a result of the accident, the minister's Nigeria visit has been cancelled. During his visit to Liberia, he held talks with Liberian officials on further strengthening the technical and economic cooperation between the two countries.
